I have taken to using my pearl of spell energy to cast mage armor upon leaving any safe-hold, today it served me well. The party of green cloaked Vol worshipers had the entrance surrounded, the vampire who joined them was not convinced by attempts to convince him that the schema was still within (although the soldiers appeared to be convinced).
That Caster woman got one good hit in on me and, since none of my attempts were landing, I was forced to make a calculated retreat to regroup. As I downed a few healing potions and prepared to rejoin the fray, the sounds of battle filled my ears and my egress was obscured by the form of the vampire coming after Stickpin. He too received what appeared to be a hard hit, and vanished into the shadows behind. Cash made some very cutting, and un-pious, remarks about the vamp’s teeth and complexion which seemed to really hurt the guy’s feelings as he retaliated. Thankfully between the two of us, Stickpin and I were able to finish off the Vampire (who actually bled when Staked, not particularly vampyric of him if I do say so myself). When we rushed from the cave, the rest of the battle was well in hand! The caster had been finished off by Rumia and the others did for the soldiers.
After looting the bodies, returned to the stagecoach, untied the driver, and headed back toward civilization. We eventually returned to Sharn where Rumia and I became flat mates with Alden who lives a lifestyle to which I could easily become accustomed and he began teaching me the finer points of wielding a rapier. We all continued to gather in the lower districts to discuss the past, the present, and the future and to fence the goods we had discovered that were neither wanted nor needed by any of the group.
After a while of living in luxury and just when the itch had begun in my idle feet, we received an ominous message from a mysterious organization which bears the mark of the lantern and hands out platinum. We followed the instructions to head toward the top of a tower and upon finding a locked gate, to present our letter to the guard and enter. We arrived and found an empty gate area which did not magically respond to me holding the letter out toward it; as I stood, feeling ridiculous, I noticed Rumia sitting near a beggar who had set up across from the gate. If there were a guard, he would surely have been moved on. I gave the letter to the beggar and were permitted entrance into a green house.
A wizened man informed us that we were to subdue some carnivorous apes, without killing them, to audition for a lucrative quest. Well, here we go, hopefully the cleric can put them to sleep gently otherwise this is going to be interesting.
